We Put the Intelligent Communications Fabric Under the Microscope: Here’s What We Found

After we launched our Intelligent Communications Fabric, the next step was to validate and deepen this thinking with an independent lens. That’s why we partnered with Cavell on a new report that takes a critical look at the Intelligent Communications Fabric and what it means for CSPs.

Over the last few months, we’ve talked a lot about two major themes for communications service providers (CSPs): the network monetization gap and our new Intelligent Communications Fabric.

If you’ve been following along, you know the story. CSPs have invested massively in networks but are still struggling to capture the full value. We believe that an Intelligent Communications Fabric is how CSPs can move from “just connectivity” to delivering differentiated, AI-powered, high-value experiences for their customers.

After we launched our Intelligent Communications Fabric, the next step was to validate and deepen this thinking with an independent lens. That’s why we partnered with Cavell on a new report that takes a critical look at the Intelligent Communications Fabric and what it means for CSPs. Cavell brings deep experience advising operators and service providers globally, and their research connects the Intelligent Communications Fabric directly to the realities of competing and growing in the AI economy.

A key theme in the report is the rise of what Cavell calls the Intelligent Workplace. Enterprises increasingly expect their communications, contact center, CRM, productivity tools, and vertical applications to work together to deliver integrated, outcome-focused experiences. In this context, the Intelligent Communications Fabric is a crucial enabler. It’s a way for CSPs to provide the underlying architectural and operational capabilities that make these Intelligent Workplace experiences possible.

Further, the report focuses on the “so what” for CSP leaders. It examines what’s driving the urgency for change, where CSPs are realistically positioned to win against OTT and hyperscaler competitors, and how they can modernize step by step without a painful, high-risk transformation program. Cavell’s analysis explores how CSPs can sequence their journey: modernizing existing assets, layering in orchestration and data, and finally building differentiated, AI-powered experiences on top.

The report also digs into what CSPs stand to gain when they embrace an Intelligent Communications Fabric approach, including new ways to package and price services, like AI-enhanced tiers and vertical solutions, a stronger role in customers’ digital and Intelligent Workplaces, and more control over the customer experience and the data that underpins it.

Overall, Cavell’s analysis validates and expands on what we’re hearing from CSPs worldwide. The question is no longer “should we change?” but, rather, “how do we change in a way that’s realistic, defensible, and creates real competitive advantage?” We see the Intelligent Communications Fabric as a clear, actionable path forward and a foundation for CSPs to evolve into true Intelligent Workplace providers.
